I’ve been away from my computer, so I am late getting to Saturday Centus. Jenny is having a giveaway, so I had to hurry to participate. This week, Jenny gave us 50 words in addition to the prompt.
DARK DAYS AHEAD
(Prompt: “You are my sunshine”)

Your heart is no longer mine.
So, I’ll be leaving this place now.
“But you are my sunshine.
Live in darkness? Tell me how.”

Toward truth and freedom I will run,
Tell her all of your ugly black lies.
I’ll take away the warm bright sun,
And leave you with her cold dark skies.

Actually, you aren't the only one who took it a dark direction. Apparently, the first incarnation of the song was kind of a sad one.

I took a negative path myself. It's really a sad song if you listen to the entire thing. I love this poem, by the way. You know how I love sad!

I agree with Sue and cj. Surprisingly, this song is originally very sad. So it is not wrong to write a sad text.
There are several poems for this week's prompt that are about a parent's worst nightmare: children sick, injured or dying.
I did not write a happy text for this week's SC. I even have trouble writing 'sunny' texts for other memes:
I tried to write a post for "Romantic Friday Writers" last Friday and found that many participants (including one of the founders of the writing challenge) thought that my text was not romantic enough. And it dawned on me that after recently going through a difficult divorce, I feel emotionally drained. I am even wondering if I will be able to write tomorrow's post for RFW! (I'll have to be creative and IMAGINE what it would be like!)
So what started as a simple, sweet song about sunshine, packs a lot of dark, sinister clouds!

Altho we don't WANT them, negative thoughts are simply a part of this world.
Very nicely done.
I liked it. I'd rather read something that came from inside than sparkly words without substance.
I do this exact same thing. I take a happy prompt and make it dark. It's actually fun, I think. Stepping outside the comfort zone of our usual writing style makes us grow in our craft!
