COME FOR CHRISTMAS

Submission to:  Week 54 of Thursday Poets Rally hosted by Promising Poets Parking Lot.

COME FOR CHRISTMAS

Mother, can you come visit here?

I’d love to feel your presence near,

Hear your voice one more time,

Feel your hand holding mine.

Come for Christmas in our home

Bring Daddy too; don’t come alone.

You’ll both be elated and proud to see

who your grandchildren have grown to be.

You’ll hold my grandchildren in your arms,

And soon succumb to all their charms.

Recall the lessons you taught along the way,

As you watch the children while they play.

Mother, may I show you

what has come to be?

Or do you and Daddy

look down to see

The beauty of

your legacy?

Laurie

In loving memory of Daddy (1967) and Mother (2001)

A wonderful, though sad, tribute. Very nice.

Oh, Laurie, you just made me cry. I understand that longing SO WELL. What I would not give for my dad to come for Christmas.

And this is excellent. It reminds me of the poetry from the old "Ideals" books that came out at holidays. My mom has a set that belonged to my favorite English teacher. She bought them at her estate sale.

I am sure both your parents were reading this as it was being written. Such a lovely tribute to both. I am sure that yes, they do look down and see the beauty and love of their legacy.
A lovely heart felt piece.

Oh, Laurie. That was just beautiful. I got a lump in my throat reading it, and especially seeing the dates after your mom's and dad's names. It appears you had wonderful parents. I'm so happy for you for that. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Very sad but also very sweet

A beautiful, poignant tribute to your parents. I like the rhyme scheme and the structure, how it narrows at the bottom like an arrow pointing down from heaven. :)
