This is my first time to join the 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups at The Head’s Office. I hope I’ve done it correctly.
HIT AND RUN
(PROMPT: MARY THOUGHT)
Knowing that Mary was hard of hearing, I spoke loudly, as I inquired about her children.
“Don’t you have a daughter?”
With tears in her eyes, she replied, “We did, but she was killed in a hit and run.”
“Oh Dear God, I had no idea,” I exclaimed, while wondering why the newspaper hadn’t reported this tragedy.
“We were heartbroken. We had a lovely funeral service.”
With shock and horror, I asked, “Why didn’t I know about this?”
Bob leaned close to his wife’s ear, “She asked about our daughter.” He looked up at me. “Mary thought you said ‘dog’.”

Well, being hard of hearing myself and living with both a mother and a sister who abide there with me, this one just made me giggle! That's exactly what a conversation sounds like around our table half the time.
I could never do these 100 word things! I'm barely clearly my throat at word 75. Well done!
